Founded in 1917 as a tire manufacturer, Carlisle survived the great depression and expanded into the construction materials industry in the 1970's with its revolutionary Sure-Seal rubber roofing products. It now offers a host of single-ply roofing systems, as well as related products such as roof garden grids, insulation, sealants, adhesives, and hardware. Carlisle Construction Materials is a $2 billion division of Carlisle Companies Incorporated, and employs over 2,400 people. It operates 26 plants in North America and 5 in Europe, manufacturing products for Carlisle SynTec Systems, Carlisle WIP Products, Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing, Carlisle HVAC Products, Hunter Panels, Insulfoam, Carlisle International, Premier SIPs, Versico Roofing Systems, and WeatherBond.
Carlisle’s EPDM single-ply roofing membranes have been a roofing industry standard since being introduced to the market in the 1970's. Its flagship product, the Sure-Seal® EPDM membrane, requires minimal maintenance and can protect interiors against nearly any weather extreme. With a 30-year warranty covering even extreme hail and wind damage, Sure-Seal will also reduce heating costs in the winter and can even melt accumulated snow, protecting roofing structures from excessive load damage. Sure-Seal EPDM roof systems are easy to install and require no special tools or complex equipment. Carlisle’s use of Factory-Applied Tape™ ensures that membrane seams are sealed before leaving the factory, and its line of pressure-sensitive accessories make the installation of Sure-Seal EPDM systems easier and more efficient than ever before.
Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing membranes are booming in popularity for their ability to reduce cooling costs, and Carlisle is the industry’s leading supplier of this type of material. Carlisle’s white and tan Sure-Weld® TPO membranes are ENERGY STAR®-qualified and Cool Roof Rating Council-certified, and have been shown to reduce energy use for buildings in warm, southern climates. Carlisle’s Spectro-Weld™ TPO membranes are the most reflective single-ply systems on the market, and are designed to be used in conjunction with solar panel arrays. Their extremely smooth top surface ensures a long-lasting reduction in energy costs.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has for decades been a preferred membrane material for providing waterproofing protection and highly reflective to flat and low-slope roofs. Its heat-welded seams increase its resistance to chemicals, grease, fire, and punctures. Carlisle’s Sure-Flex™ PVC membranes are ENERGY STAR® qualified, contribute to LEED® credit requirements, and are Cool Roof Rating Council-certified and Title 24 compliant. Available in widths up to ten feet, Carlisle’s PVC roofing systems can also be reinforced with polyester or fiberglass scrim, increasing durability in high-wind regions.
